Recap by phillip woo

Punted late Fortunate Son had a perfect trip one off in midfield before hitting the front 200m out and drawing clear drew clear for a first local win at his 16th start. Sunday's Serenade finished nicely with one wider out to just win a three-way battle for second after travelling behind midfield and one off the fence. It was an improved effort. Ace War ran on nicely with two wider out to just miss second travelling three from the rear after a tardy start. He proved a runner-up result last start was not a fluke. Favourite Fortune Star ran on well to just miss a placing settling last after getting forced wide early on by the eventual runner-up Sunday's Serenade. He had an excuse. Thunder Blink kept on one paced for fifth without threatening the top four after a box-seat run. He'll find his way shortly into Class Five but it was a better effort at his first run over the Valley 1,200m. Star Brose ran on steadily to finish next best after a rails run from behind midfield. He'll be looking forward to a downgrade. California Moxie gave up the chase when badly impeded when going for a run along the inside 300m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six : (156) - TOKYO HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 KINGDOM OF RICHES (K079) E C W Wong When questioned Apprentice E C W Wong stated that prior to the start being effected he looked behind to seek assistance from the starting gate handler and shortly after, the start was effected which resulted in him becoming badly unbalanced and KINGDOM OF RICHES jumping awkwardly.

Apprentice Wong was reminded of his obligations under Rule 103 to report any occurrence in a race that may affect the performance of his horse.

When questioned regarding his riding and in particular the fast early pace set, Apprentice Wong stated that whilst he was aware that the pace of the event was inside of standard time his mount was racing too keenly and despite his efforts to set a more sustainable pace KINGDOM OF RICHES did not respond to his efforts to do so.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of KINGDOM OF RICHES, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, KINGDOM OF RICHES will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments.

Horse No 2 SUNDAY'S SERENADE (J231) P N Wong On a number of occasions passing the 100 Metres made contact with FORTUNE STAR due to both runners shifting ground.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 FORTUNATE SON (J446) K C Leung Making the Home Turn was hampered when taken wider.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 BRIGHT MORTAR (K333) H Bentley After improving to the inside of KINGDOM OF RICHES near the 300 Metres was then steadied when crowded by KINGDOM OF RICHES which shifted in when giving ground.

Horse No 5 CALIFORNIA MOXIE (J131) Y L Chung Jumped only fairly.

From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Approaching the 400 Metres CALIFORNIA MOXIE (Y L Chung) endeavoured to improve to the inside of BRIGHT MORTAR when there was not sufficient room to do so, resulting in CALIFORNIA MOXIE being checked away from BRIGHT MORTAR.

After the 300 Metres CALIFORNIA MOXIE, which had improved to the inside of BRIGHT MORTAR, was then checked when BRIGHT MORTAR was carried in by KINGDOM OF RICHES (Apprentice E C W Wong) which shifted in when giving ground.

Apprentice Wong was advised to exercise more care.

Jockey Chung was advised that he should ensure there is sufficient room for him to improve when taking runs.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained an abrasion to the left front leg.

Horse No 6 CELTIC TIMES (G230) K Teetan Making the Home Turn was hampered and carried wider by YOUNG FIGHTER which hung out.

Horse No 7 FORTUNE STAR (K003) L Ferraris From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

On a number of occasions passing the 100 Metres made contact with SUNDAY'S SERENADE due to both runners shifting ground.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 YOUNG FIGHTER (K464) R Kingscote When questioned R Kingscote stated that from a wide barrier he was instructed to take up a forward position.

He said in the early stages he was obliged to make use of his mount to cross runners to his inside and when caught in a three wide position he continued to ride his mount forward near the 1500 Metres to encourage KINGDOM OF RICHES to cross to the rail.

He said as a consequence the pace of the event in the early stages was quicker than he had anticipated.

He added that making the Home Turn his mount hung out and as a result ran wide on the turn.

Trainer C Fownes confirmed the instructions issued.

Horse No 9 CARRYON SMILING (J392) A Atzeni Noted to have blood in the mouth on arrival at the Start.

Was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race Horse No 10 ACE WAR (J509) D Probert Slow to begin.

Horse No 11 STAR BROSE (J463) L Hewitson Approaching the 300 Metres was checked to avoid YOUNG FIGHTER when that runner hung out making the Home Turn.
