Racing Incident Report
Race Five : (277) - THE POK OI CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 PEJIBAYE (K297) J McDonald Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 3 COPARTNER FLEET (K342) M Guyon Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 4 EMBLAZON (K122) C L Chau Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 5 CALL ME SUCCESS (K462) A Atzeni Near the 900 Metres was hampered and taken wider.
Near the 250 Metres was steadied and shifted to the outside of COPARTNER FLEET to obtain clear running.
Horse No 6 MALPENSA (K545) Z Purton When questioned Z Purton stated that his mount was fractious in the starting gates and as a consequence jumped only fairly.
He said throughout the early stages MALPENSA was reluctant to hold its position to the inside of other runners and approaching the first turn near the 900 Metres he was obliged to severely check his mount when MALPENSA shifted out when reluctant to hold its position to the inside of GREAT SPIRIT which shifted in slightly.
He added that as a consequence MALPENSA lost significant ground and did not finish the race off thereafter.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
The racing manners of MALPENSA were considered unacceptable.
Before being allowed to race again, MALPENSA will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial around a bend in Hong Kong from an inside barrier.
Noted to have lost its left front plate after the race.
Horse No 7 TORVEIN (K375) L Ferraris Near the 900 Metres was steadied and shifted out to avoid MALPENSA.
Horse No 8 KA YING RESILIENCE (J439) K Teetan A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 9 GREAT SPIRIT (J155) H Doyle Approaching the 1000 Metres was steadied to avoid EMBLAZON (C L Chau) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear.
C L Chau was reprimanded.
Near the 900 Metres was contacted heavily on the hindquarters by MALPENSA, resulting in GREAT SPIRIT becoming unbalanced.
Horse No 10 HAPPY SHOOTER (J427) L Hewitson Bounded on jumping and lost ground.
Near the 900 Metres became badly unbalanced and lost ground when being severely checked to avoid MALPENSA when that runner gave ground quickly and shifted out.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 12 RUBY SAILING (H347) M L Yeung Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
Held up for clear running between the 400 Metres and the 300 Metres.

Emblazon tracked the speed and took control 60m out for a second win and second from his past three starts. He's returned an improved runner this season and can hold his own up in grade off a light weight. Favourite Pejibaye found one too good after dictating the run on his lonesome from gate 11. It was another honest performance carrying top weight. Thumped late in betting, Solid Car just got up for third after a one-off trip from midfield. It was a good effort on his season debut following a downgrade. Great Spirit just lost the battle for third after a rails run from midfield. He can bob up at any moment after filling the frame in his past three starts. Ruby Sailing came from last at one point for fifth following a slow start. It was a better effort after failing last start following a win. Ka Ying Resilience only plodded after getting all favours in the box seat. Debutant Call Me Success ran on without threatening travelling four from the rear.
