Recap by phillip woo

Punted late Stunning Peach travelled one off behind midfield before surging to the lead 150m out and just holding on for a second win from 14 starts. He appreciated the light weight after placing in two of four other starts this term. Favourite Top Dragon was just denied after missing the start and had a gap close on him 250m out following a rails run from midfield. It was a solid effort in defeat. Regal Gem came from near last to just get the head down for third without threatening the top two. It was a good run at his first start over 1,600m. Packing Angel just missed a placing after a prominent urn. It was a better performance at his second run back following knee surgery. Soleil Fighter kept on one paced after a box-seat run. Talents Ambition came from last to finish next best. He's a dirt horse.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six : (449) - THE YEAR OF THE HORSE CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 2 - 1600Meters

Horse No 1 ENCOUNTERED (G236) K Teetan Approaching the 500 Metres was bumped by STUNNING PEACH on a number of occasions when STUNNING PEACH was being shifted to the outside of PACKING ANGEL to improve.

K Teetan stated that his mount was disadvantaged by racing wide and without cover for the majority of the event and as a consequence was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 3 BEAUTY ETERNAL (H008) B Avdulla Blundered on jumping and shortly afterwards was bumped by TALENTS AMBITION which shifted out.

B Avdulla stated that the intention was to find a midfield position.

He said when caught wide in the early stages he was obliged to continue forward to race outside the lead to avoid covering additional ground.

Horse No 4 GORGEOUS WIN (J008) D B McMonagle After the race the Veterinary Surgeon reported that the horse was found to have a respiratory condition which requires further assessment.

Horse No 5 PACKING ANGEL (J454) L Hewitson Near the 300 Metres lay in, resulting in its rider L Hewitson having to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Horse No 6 SOLEIL FIGHTER (J127) Z Purton Leaving the 300 Metres raced tight between VOYAGE SAMURAI and BEAUTY ETERNAL, both of which shifted ground.

Horse No 7 VOYAGE SAMURAI (J026) K C Leung A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, VOYAGE SAMURAI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 8 TALENTS AMBITION (J136) M L Yeung Shifted out on jumping and was bumped.

When questioned regarding his riding making the Home Turn and in the early stages of the Home Straight M L Yeung stated that after settling back in the field and with the early stages of the race being run outside of standard time he felt it was necessary to make a move from the 500 Metres to improve.

He said when he was of the opinion TALENTS AMBITION was travelling well he endeavoured to obtain clear running between ENCOUNTERED and GORGEOUS WIN near the 450 Metres but when GORGEOUS WIN held its position he was held up for clear running between the 450 Metres and the 350 Metres when unable to improve.

He added near the 350 Metres he then steadied his mount and directed it to the outside of GORGEOUS WIN to obtain clear running.

When questioned if there was an opportunity to follow the winner STUNNING PEACH into the race Jockey Yeung conceded with the Stewards that in retrospect he should have maintained his position behind that runner which would provide him with a clear run into the Home Straight.

Having regard to the explanation provided and verifying that the early stages of the event were run outside of standard time Jockey Yeung was advised that whilst the Stewards were of the opinion he had made an error of judgement in attempting to improve to the outside, they found the reason he made such a decision was reasonable in the circumstances.

Horse No 9 REGAL GEM (K258) A Badel Jumped awkwardly and made heavy contact with the left side of its starting gate and lost ground.

From the outside barrier was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 10 STUNNING PEACH (J301) Y L Chung Approaching the 500 Metres made contact with ENCOUNTERED on a number of occasions when being shifted out to improve.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 TOP DRAGON (J481) M Guyon Jumped only fairly.

Near the 300 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when crowded between BEAUTY ETERNAL and PACKING ANGEL which shifted in before being corrected by its rider.

Between the 200 Metres and the 100 Metres M Guyon dropped his right rein.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 PRAY FOR MIR (J245) H Bowman Withdrawn on 16.2.26 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (left front tendon injury).

Before being allowed to race again, PRAY FOR MIR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
