Recap by phillip woo

Sensationally backed Shooting To Top had a box-seat run and hit the front 50m out before scrambling in for a first win at his third start. He had shown flashes of ability in his first two starts. Glorious Journey found one just too good after leading 100m out travelling effectively one-out, one-back from gate five. He was able to brush off an out-of-character effort last start. Sure Joyful wouldn't go down without a fight after dictating the pace from gate nine. It was his best effort from 10 starts this term. Punted late Our Lucky Glory succumbed late for fourth without threatening the top three runners after pressing forward to track the leader from gate 12. It was another honest performance. Lukewarm favourite Fortune Star made ground late through the centre for fifth after a rails run from behind midfield. He hasn't disgraced but has found it harder in his past five starts following a win in January. Star Elegance only plodded when asked for more following a rails run from midfield. Good Luck Win wasn't travelling well at any time and was eased out of the race approaching the final bend.

Approaching the 1400 Metres SURE JOYFUL (C L Chau) shifted in, resulting in SHOOTING TO TOP being taken in.

A short distance later SHOOTING TO TOP (E Brown) then shifted in and away from SURE JOYFUL, resulting in GLORIOUS JOURNEY, YIU CHEUNG VICTORY and STAR ELEGANCE having to be steadied when crowded for room.

C L Chau was reprimanded and advised he must ensure that he leaves sufficient room for runners to his inside.

E Brown was advised in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort sooner than what he did on this occasion to prevent his mount from shifting in.

Leaving the 600 Metres lay in and away from GLORIOUS JOURNEY and made contact with the running rail.

STAR ELEGANCE continued to lay in for the remainder of the event.

Horse No 7 SURE JOYFUL (G125) C L Chau C L Chau stated that he was given the option of going forward and lead if his mount showed sufficient pace to do so.

He said when SURE JOYFUL commenced well he elected to go forward and lead the event.

Horse No 8 TO INFINITY (G277) L Hewitson Bumped at the start.

Horse No 10 APOLAR FIGHTER (J169) R Kingscote From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 11 OUR LUCKY GLORY (G292) K Teetan K Teetan advised that from the outside barrier he was instructed to go forward if his mount jumped well.

Horse No 12 GOOD LUCK WIN (J135) Y L Chung Y L Chung stated that he was instructed to go forward.

He said despite riding his mount along in the early stages it did not show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position which resulted in GOOD LUCK WIN racing wide and without cover for the majority of the event and further back than intended.

He added GOOD LUCK WIN hung out and as a result made the Home Turn wide and then did not finish the race off.

The racing manners and performance of GOOD LUCK WIN, which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, GOOD LUCK WIN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
