Recap by phillip woo

Grand Nova travelled midfield on the rails before straightening four deep and just getting up in the concluding stages for a third win and second over the Valley 1,000m from 25 starts. He relished a return to the track and trip of two earlier seconds. Beauty Show would not go down without a fight after dictating the pace from gate eight. He's close to a win with seconds twice and a fourth from four starts. Harmony Fire kept on well to just miss second after a box-seat run from gate one. He's always a chance over the Valley 1,000m. Winning Money lost a placing late after tracking the leader from gate seven. He's an honest sprinter over this course. Beauty Thunder was doing some nice work late through the centre to just miss fourth after straightening fourth last. He rarely produces a bad run over the Valley 1,000m. Favourite Jumbo Blessing was next best but was short of room 50m out along the inside after making his run third last following a tardy start. Specked late Happy United kept on one paced when hampered 500m out following a handy run on the inside from gate three.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four : (768) - TSIM SHA TSUI HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1000Meters

Horse No 1 BEAUTY THUNDER (J299) A Badel Jumped only fairly and shortly after the start was steadied when crowded between WINNING MONEY and BOLTZ which was taken out by MAPOGO.

Horse No 2 WINNING MONEY (J116) E Brown Shortly after the start was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced.

E Brown pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 600 Metres (see HAPPY UNITED).

Over the concluding stages raced tight between HARMONY FIRE and GRAND NOVA.

Horse No 3 GRAND NOVA (J323) B Avdulla Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 GROUPER (L233) P N Wong Jumped only fairly.

Apprentice P N Wong reported that her mount hung out making the turn after the 600 Metres and as a result made that turn wider.

She said GROUPER, which was having its first race start at Happy Valley, was not comfortable on the Happy Valley circuit.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 5 BEAUTY SHOW (L260) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 BOLTZ (L385) K Teetan Shifted in on jumping and made contact with MAPOGO.

As a result MAPOGO then shifted out, resulting in BOLTZ being crowded out onto BEAUTY THUNDER.

Near the 800 Metres was steadied to avoid BEAUTY SHOW (Z Purton) which shifted in.

Crowded near the 600 Metres.

Z Purton was reprimanded.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.

Horse No 7 PRIVATE WEALTH (L177) J Orman Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 9 MAPOGO (L175) C L Chau Bumped at the start.

Leaving the 600 Metres was steadied to avoid HAPPY UNITED when that runner was checked.

C L Chau stated that the instructions were to hold a more forward position.

He said despite riding his mount along he was unable to obtain an on-pace position.

He said in the middle stages MAPOGO raced greenly before not finishing the race off in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 10 JUMBO BLESSING (K529) J Moreira Jumped only fairly.

Leaving the 500 Metres, when racing keenly, was steadied to avoid MAPOGO.

As a result JUMBO BLESSING then hung out when awkwardly placed behind MAPOGO.

Over the concluding stages was unable to be ridden out when held up behind BEAUTY SHOW.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 HAPPY UNITED (H208) M L Yeung Near the 250 Metres, when laying in, was steadied to avoid BEAUTY THUNDER (A Badel) which shifted out when not clear.

A Badel was severely reprimanded.

E Brown (WINNING MONEY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 600 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of BOLTZ, resulting in BOLTZ being taken in onto HAPPY UNITED, causing HAPPY UNITED to lose its rightful running and be checked.

E Brown was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 8 July 2026 at Happy Valley.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his very good race riding record.
