After graduating, Mark joined Racing Post in 1996 and was its chief sports writer until he moved to Australia in 2001. In Australia, he was the media manager of, among others, Centrebet, Sydney FC and Tom Waterhouse, and he ran the Western Australian Turf Club's racing and wagering operations.
