Hugh Bowman is confident Hakka Radiance will extend his winning streak at Happy Valley on Wednesday night and deliver the Australian ace a crucial victory in his pursuit of a berth for the Longines International Jockeys’ Championship.

The final two positions in the coveted contest on December 10 will be decided on Wednesday night, with Bowman (14 wins) bidding to leapfrog Luke Ferraris (15) for second place behind Zac Purton in this season’s championship.

Holding a 19-7 advantage over Ferraris with seconds this term, Bowman needs one more victory than the South African at the Valley meeting to secure his spot in the IJC.

The tight battle between Vincent Ho Chak-yiu and Jerry Chau Chun-lok for the leading home-grown rider position will also be decided, with Ho holding the lead on 11 wins over Chau on 10.

“I think it leads the way as far as jockey challenges go around the world,” Bowman said of the IJC, which he won in 2016.

“I’ve had the privilege of being involved many times now and hopefully I can add another one to the list, but it will depend on results tomorrow night.”

Bowman has high hopes for Hakka Radiance, who chases a fourth straight success in the Class Four St Andrew’s Challenge Quaich (1,800m).

Danny Shum Chap-shing’s former British galloper finally broke through for his first Hong Kong triumph at start 25 and has seemingly gained confidence, scoring at his following two starts including a two-and-a-quarter length blitz when rising to Class Four last start.

Hakka Radiance bolts in under Zac Purton last start.

“I’ve ridden him in a gallop between his last run and this start and he feels fantastic. He’s really in a great vein of form and hopefully he can continue the winning ways,” Bowman said.

“I think to begin with he was in Class Five, so that helped. But I just think he looks really well, he’s enjoying his races and he’s just going well. There’s no trick to it, he’s just found form.”

Star Brose, Flow Water Flow, Denfield and Allcash are Bowman’s other rides at the midweek meeting.

Fortune Star, who followed back-to-back seconds with an eye-catching fourth last start, appears to be Ferraris’ best chance to strike from his four rides on Wednesday night.

Fortune Star gallops on the dirt under Luke Ferraris.

Ho and Chau each have four rides and the latter is in a similar position to Bowman, holding a 14-11 advantage on second placings.

King Miles, an impressive first-up winner and last-start second, shapes as one of Ho’s best chances when he tackles the Class Three Culloden Bridge Handicap (1,200m).

“Last time he was surprisingly really quick. He’s showing freshness and he’s feeling well – that’s the main thing, so hopefully he can do better tomorrow,” Ho said.

Never Settle, Celtic Times and The Boom Box are Ho’s other rides while Chau will team up with Thunder Blink, Meowth, Embraces and Symbol Of Strength.
