It is sure to be a subdued afternoon at Sha Tin on Sunday, with the card to take place behind closed doors as a mark of respect for the victims of this week’s tragic Tai Po fire.

There are 10 races on the card and Sam Agars provides an extended rundown of his selections.

Race 1 – Class Four 1,000m Turf Handicap

A nice little contest to kick off the card and Packing Glory looks well placed to make a winning debut. While gate two is not ideal down the Sha Tin straight and a couple of key rivals, Cap Liner (14) and Sight Hermoso (12), have drawn better, Packing Glory has done enough in his trials to suggest he can prevail.

Race 2 – Class Five 1,400m Turf Handicap

Hollie Doyle clicked well with Team Happy when running second last start and, from the inside gate and with the promise of a good run, he can go one better here.

Race 3 – Class Four 1,200m AWT Handicap

Thunder Prince has raced well at Happy Valley in two starts since joining Jamie Richards from Chris So Wai-yin and a switch to the dirt surface, on which he won a recent trial, looks suitable.

Race 4 – Class Four 1,200m Turf Handicap

Ever Luck produced a remarkable debut success after running out abruptly on the home turn and looks far too good for this grade.

Race 5 – Class Four 1,600m Turf Handicap

After coming from a long way back for fourth from gate 13 last start, Oldtown should be able to settle much closer in the run from barrier four here.

Race 6 – Class Three 1,200m AWT Handicap

Fun N Fun Together has been racing in strong form this season and from another good gate, Ellis Wong Chi-wang’s 5lb claim should be enough to ensure he is winning again.

Race 7 – Class Two 1,600m Turf Handicap

Hong Lok Golf got hampered at an inopportune time when sixth last start and should be able to return to his best from the inside draw.

Race 8 – Class Two 1,000m Turf Handicap

Magic Control loves the Sha Tin 1,000m and his only run down the straight this season resulted in a strong third at Group Three level. Throw in James McDonald and barrier 13, and he looks the one to beat.

Race 9 – Class Three 1,200m Turf Handicap

An eye-catching victor on Hong Kong debut, Alpha Strike should enjoy the step up in trip and can remain unbeaten from three career starts.

Race 10 – Class Three 1,600m Turf Handicap

Winning form is good form and Beauty Bolt is the one who knows how to hit the line first in this race. The big weight is not ideal but everything else looks perfect.
