Hollie Doyle is hoping to keep building momentum on the way to the International Jockeys’ Championship with a solid book of six rides at Happy Valley on Wednesday night.

The British rider has enjoyed a strong start to her Hong Kong stint, riding three winners and really hitting the ground running in terms of support.

From seven meetings so far, Doyle’s leanest night has been five rides and she has already ridden in three Group races, such has been the support she has received in such a short period.

Hollie Doyle boots clear on Victory Sky at Sha Tin.

“It’s been a really great start. I do really appreciate how tough it is here so to have three winners already, I’ll certainly take that,” said Doyle.

“The trainers have all been great, I’m getting lots of support and the fact I can do the light weights helps a lot.

“I’m just going with the flow, I said to Tom [Marquand, husband] ‘seeing how hard it was for the other overseas jockeys, it would be a miracle if I rode a winner by the looks of things’. I’m just taking every meeting as it comes and remaining positive.”

One of Doyle’s key link ups so far has been with Manfred Man Ka-leung, with that particular trainer giving her four rides alone at Sha Tin on Sunday, and she rides Double Win for the veteran handler in the Class Four Shek Lei Pui Handicap (2,200m).

The Burgundy galloper got off the mark at the 18th attempt when storming down the outside under Doyle to win over 2,000m at Sha Tin last month and looks set to relish the extra distance from the inside stall.

“He won nicely at Sha Tin, albeit he did make a bit hard work of it. He relished the step up to 2,000m but he does have a bit to prove back at Happy Valley,” said Doyle.

“He doesn’t have any recent good form there as he has done most of his racing at Sha Tin. In his first season he was second at the Valley and this is 2,200m, so I’m hoping he will stay well.

“We know he stays of course, I think this will just be a bit more challenging for him on the sharper track, I suppose.”

Doyle also partners up again with the Frankie Lor Fu-chuen-trained Ever Smart, who is yet to salute but is looking to put that right in the Class Five Lau Shui Heung Handicap (1,000m).

Slow starts have plagued the 22-race maiden’s season so far, but a change in strategy could be just what he needs.

JHollie Doyle is all smiles after booting home Double Win.

“I really thought he would go closer than he did the other day with the visors on for the first time as he’d galloped well in them, but he’s had the tendency the last two runs to not jump as well as I’d want,” said Doyle.

“Maybe that’s because of the headgear, so Frankie has taken it all off in the hopes of getting him to jump a bit better, because we know the ability is there from what he shows in the mornings.

“He just needs to apply himself a bit better on race day. We’ve got a good draw in stall five and he should be fine back at 1,000m.”

On a busy night for Doyle, she also rides Come Fast Fay Fay, Know At Heart, Superb King and Aestheticism.

Meanwhile, Alexis Badel has lodged an appeal against the severity of two suspensions he received at the Valley last Wednesday night.

Badel copped two-meeting bans for careless riding aboard both Glory Cloud and Tactical Command, pleading guilty to the charge for the former and not guilty for the latter.

Jockey Club stewards have granted a suspension of the penalties pending the appeal.
